This course is designed for qualified professionals (SLPs & RHDs) who are interested in treating Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders.

All assessment + treatment materials will be provided.

Clinicians will be able to begin assessing & treating OMDs using the ‘Twisted Tongues’ program immediately after course completion!

Course Information

  • Course Fee: $1000

    The course will be held over Zoom and is limited to 15 participants.

    Our 2 day course provides clinicians with the knowledge required to successfully identify, assess, and treat orofacial myofunctional disorders. Our treatment program, “Twisted Tongues”, was developed from current research and clinical experience. Participants will be provided with electronic assessment and treatment materials, including:

    • Assessment protocol form

    • Assessment summary & treatment overview forms

    • Treatment tracker form (for clinician use)

    • Instructions for each individual exercise (client use)

    • Home Practice Tracker (client use)

    After course completion, clinicians should be ready to begin assessing & treating OMDs immediately.

  • The first day of the course will cover:

    • Instructor & participant introductions

    • What are Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

    • Impacts of OMDs on oral structures, speech, swallowing, etc.

    • When to refer/assess for OMDs

    • Assessing OMDs - part 1

  • Day 2 will cover:

    • Assessing OMDs - part 2

    • Treatment considerations

      • timing of treatment

      • other required referrals

      • when not to treat

    • Treating OMDs

      • overview of Twisted Tongues program

      • teaching of individual exercises

    • Q&A session

    If there is remaining time at the end of Day 2, participants will get the opportunity to practice doing/teaching the individual exercises.

Your Instructor

Victoria is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of Strathcona Speech Therapy. Her practice has solely focused on Myofunctional Therapy for over 2 years, in which time she’s worked with over 150 clients with orofacial myofunctional disorders. Prior to private practice Victoria worked in the hospital system where she developed her strong foundational knowledge in oropharyngeal anatomy/physiology, dysphagia, and motor speech.
